Maths Students of the Week

Yoanna 9R, Maja 9T, Mathilda 9T, Loveday 9C, Nilima 9C - For winning round one of the Count on Us Inter-School Tournament!

Well Done!

Go Squadrilaterals!

A big congratulation to the Camden Squadrilaterals, a group of year 9 students who took part in the Count on Us tournament Heat on Wednesday 3 May.

Count on us is a London wide maths tournament with five competitive maths puzzle rounds, and the team did the school proud by coming first in the heat and securing their place at the final on 6 July.

They committed many lunchtimes and after-school sessions to practise the puzzles, which led them to success. They were highly praised by teachers from the competing schools for their quick thinking and algebraic skills.

Well done to Yoanna 9R, Maja 9T, Mathilda 9T, Loveday 9C and Nilima 9C !

The maths department is very proud of you and wish you luck for the final.

Art Department News

Lara 12LG05 was the recipient of a prize at this year’s prize giving ceremony, held at Painters’ Hall on Friday 31 March 2023.

This event was organised by the Worshipful Company of Painter-Stainers, one of the City’s oldest livery companies, which has been promoting, supporting and representing the visual arts for more than 500 years.

This annual event recognises the talents and skills of young artists in London. It gives them an opportunity to represent their schools, participate in a respected event and take pride in their achievements.

Well done Lara!

The Spanish Riveter

Last week, a group of Year 12 and 13 Spanish students, accompanied by Ms Garcia, had the opportunity to learn about contemporary Spanish literature by attending the event “The Spanish Riveter: Riveting Writing from Spain”, which took place in the British Library.

The readings by the authors gave the students a glimpse into historical and emerging Spanish writing.

Writers, translators, publicists and academics participated in the event, who underlined the popularity of Spanish literature amongst the British.

Rosa Montero and Juan Cruz read fragments of some of the best-known Spanish works. In addition, students received copies of “The Spanish Riveter”, a magazine of contemporary Spanish literature and translation into English, which will allow them to delve deeper and expand their knowledge of Spanish culture and writing.

Spring Social and AGM - Tuesday 16 May, 6pm

We’d like to invite everyone to the CASCA Spring Social and AGM – there will be a free bar and plenty of opportunity to meet other parents and hear more about what we have been up to over the last year and plans for the coming year.

We will also be keen to meet anyone interested in helping at SummerFest (23 June 6-9pm).

Could you be our next Bar Leader? During the year, we are asked to provide a number of bars at concerts and other events. They raise very good funds for the school and provide a much appreciated service at school events. It’s also a lot of fun and a great way to get to know other parents. We are looking for someone, or perhaps two people who would be happy to take on the management of the bars, emailing volunteers and making sure there is sufficient stock - not too much work with a good team behind you. Email casca@csg.school if you are interested.

Annabel and Sandra, Co-Chairs of CASCA.

REBELS, RADICALS AND REFORMERS – A WALKING TOUR OF BLOOMSBURY

Saturday 13 May, 11am

Since its development at the end of the 17th century, Bloomsbury has always been a cradle of knowledge, new ideas and artistic pursuits. In its leafy squares and behind its perfectly proportioned Georgian terraces, ground-breaking novels were written, reform movements were born and pioneering medical history was made.

Intrigued?

Join Elena Paolini, accredited Camden Tour Guide, on this walk in the footsteps of culture makers and shakers: we will meet members of the famous set who “lived in squares and loved in triangles”, an intrepid Victorian adventuress, the “queen of crime” (but not as we know her) and even a princess turned real-life spy. Along the way, we will marvel at a variety of historic buildings and open spaces, which make Bloomsbury such an iconic place today.
