Year 10 Textile Students Make History!

The Design and Technology department is collaborating with Transport for London on an educational programme they are developing called Inspiring Engineering Careers.

Last week Year 10 textiles students were invited to TFL headquarters in Pimlico to meet with the Head of Design, Paul Marchant. The session took place in the Jill Viner who was the first woman bus driver for TFL in 1974.

We were lucky enough to be the first commuters to see samples of the new moquette fabric which is used throughout the new Elizabeth Line high speed trains, which finally launched this week. We learnt that the traditional French fabric moquette is still used on all TFL transport since its introduction in 1923.

It is made with wool which is both sustainable, biodegradable and self cleaning. The fabrics are also woven with strands of silver which have antibacterial properties and a mesh backing acts as an anti-stab feature.

Competition Final for TEENTECH

We are absolutely delighted that the following team/s from our school have progressed through to this year's final:

Category: BEST INNOVATION
Project: ADHD VEST

Category: BEST RESEARCH
Project: SAFETY SHELL

Category: DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION
Project: TEENSPACE PROJECT

Many congratulations to our students, this is a HUGE achievement.

Our students were from year 9, participating in an extracurricular DT/STEM club.  We are immensely proud of all the students this year; the judges have been so impressed by the high standard of the entries and the amount of work students have put into all these ideas is evident throughout.

Our teams have now been invited to the Finals Judging Day and Ceremony which will take place on: MONDAY 20th JUNE at the IET, Savoy Place, London WC2.

In addition, we have been told that as a school who is clearly supporting their students with the opportunity to develop qualities which will be of very real value in tomorrow’s world, we will now become a Silver TeenTech Centre of Innovation!

Platinum Jubilee Book Quiz

For your amusement over the half term, I have compiled a book quiz.

I have chosen one book which was published for each of the years of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II.  The books are all popular titles which are still in print today.  Indeed, I would estimate that 95% are in the school library.

I have provided a clue and an anagram of the title for each book.  All you have to do is supply the actual title.

Jubilee Book Title Quiz

I will give a prize to the person who gets the most correct answers.

Email your answers to sgreen@csg.school by 4pm on Monday 6 June.
