Year 11 Parents - Learning How to Learn

In late November, Year 11 received the latest version of CSG’s Learning How to Learn booklet. The booklet provides a variety of practical techniques and strategies for helping students become more effective learners, encouraging them to take ownership of their study habits and improve their academic outcomes. Becoming an effective learner is a skill that can last long after a student has left school.

We will run an online session on the above from 4:00 to 5:00 pm next Thursday, 23 January 2025.

We will email Year 11 parents with the meeting link in the coming days.

The meeting will be recorded, and a link to the video and the booklet will be emailed to all Year 11 parents within the following week.

I look forward to meeting you then.

STEM Futures Program at Imperial College London

Chloe 11T, has taken part in STEM Futures at Imperial College London and UCL Horizons (a 9-month mentorship program) in Year 10.

A comprehensive list of her successes on this program and feedback from Imperial College London are highlighted below:

One of your students, Chloe, has been taking part in our STEM Futures Programme here at Imperial College London. Chloe has been a great asset to the programme and an excellent representative of Camden School for Girls. She is a fantastic student – we have absolutely loved working with her over the last year – and we have no doubt that she will go on to do great things in the future!

Some of Chloe’s achievements have been:

  • A star student during the Bush Theatre Workshop (on public speaking, networking, and overcoming impostor syndrome), a great participant who really blossomed!
  • A confident speaker who delivers great presentations and is an active participant during sessions!
  • Pushes herself during challenging personal development workshops and always excels.
  • Always engages with guest speakers, participates in Q&As with Imperial student ambassadors, and asks thoughtful questions!
  • A star student during the summer school and made the most out of all the sessions!

Chloe is clearly a highly motivated and committed student with a strong passion for STEM.

PE ROUND UP - AUTUMN TERM

Football

Congratulations to our football teams, who played brilliantly last term! The following is a match report from the Year 7 Final v Parliament Hill written by Chloe 7T:

It started off very well. We attacked a lot and kept them away from our half of the field. We scored 4 goals (Alice - 1, Laura - 3). During the second half, we tried to play defence, but it didn't work as well as attacking, and they scored 2 goals. The player of the match was Laura. She scored 3 goals and kept attacking even under pressure. We won the match 4 -2!

Agatha 8C wrote an overview of the matches the Year 8 team played in:

For 5 weeks last term, we played against different schools in Camden. In our first match we played Haverstock, winning 3-1, and the week after, Regent's high 5-0. This Wednesday after school, we headed to Haverstock school to play in the final of the Camden Shield football league. We faced Parliament Hill in what ended up to be a challenging game. At half-time, we were losing 2-0, but we managed to come back and ended up in a draw of 3-3. We hope to beat them next year. I think we can all agree that Sienna in 8T was the player of the match. Overall, we’ve had an amazing experience playing against other schools.

Well done to everyone who took part! The final league standings were:

  • Year 9/10 - 2nd place
  • Year 8 - 2nd place
  • Year 7 - 1st place!!

Cross country

We took part in the Camden Schools Cross Country last term. Having had 64 students try out for the team, we chose 30 across Years 7-10. All of our runners finished their races, with the Year 10 and Year 9 teams finishing in 1st place overall!

Our Year 8s and 7s both finished in 2nd respectively. Congratulations to all teams on your results, and to everyone who participated in the trial!

Hanna 7R was our highest placed runner in the Year 7 race, finishing in 9th, and Leonore finished 8th in the Year 8 race. In the Year 9 race, we had a clean sweep of the top 3 positions with Chloe 9C in 1st, Vera 9M in 2nd and Becky 9C in 3rd!

As a result of their fantastic performances, Chloe, Becky and Vera were all selected to represent Camden at the London Youth Games Cross Country event! Well done!!

Year 11 Visit to Tate Modern

On Monday, our Y11 Art students visited the Tate Modern to kick-start their final project with the theme Gathering.

Our students saw lots of artwork to help spark ideas related to the theme and created lots of observational studies whilst drawing on location.

Author Sarah Govett visits CSG

This Wednesday, Year 8 students welcomed author Sarah Govett to CSG.

Sarah spoke about the inspiration for her Territory trilogy and how dystopian novels serve as a tool for social commentary. She also described her writing process and engaged the students in discussions about the potential impacts of climate change and antibiotic resistance on our world.

Students asked questions about her novels, the challenges of getting a book published, and tips for their own writing. Here are a few students' comments on the event:
"I really enjoyed Sarah's talk. I love how she mentioned how she put things she was worried about into her books. The talk was also super fun and interactive. At the end, I talked to her about the novel I am writing, and she gave me amazing tips!" Tahiyah

"Although learning about real world issues that could have a major effect soon was worrying, I got a lot out of the talk. Advice on writing stories, about Govett's inspiration, and book recommendations. I was also inspired to write an a dystopian novel of my own." Rita

"When Sarah told us her backstory and why she started writing books, it gave me an interest in dystopian novels. It gives me a chance to read some and eventually find one I can relate to." Waliha

Classics Department:
Mythology Magic: A Day of Legendary Tales

On Thursday, 23 January, Katy Cawkwell, a professional storyteller, will be visiting CSG, delivering a series of storytelling sessions to Y8 + 9 and to GCSE Classics + Latin students.

She will be with us all day, bringing to life some of the stories we are studying, from Medusa to Troy to Aeneas’ heroic journey to found Rome, and we will be able to enjoy the experience of hearing stories told in their original form, exploring the possibilities of oral composition (creating stories without writing) and communication.

  • Year 8 Classics: Medusa
  • Years 10-11 Latin and Classics: Odysseus and Penelope
  • Year 9 Classics: The Tale of Troy
  • Year 9 Latin: Aeneas and the Origins of Rome
