New Views-Playwriting in Collaboration With the National Theatre!

Since December, I have been working with a group of Year 12 and Year 13 students on the National Theatre's annual 'New Views' playwriting competition .

We have been fortunate to work with two professional playwrights - initially Elinor Cook who came into school to deliver a creative ideas generating workshop, and then Martin Murphy who gave one to one feedback to the students on the first drafts of their plays. As part of the programme we were also given tickets to attend a performance of 'Tartuffe' at the National to inspire the writing process.

The students' final drafts are read by a team of theatre professionals, and from this a longlist is created before a shortlist is drawn up later in the month. I'm thrilled to let you know that out of the hundreds of scripts submitted across the country, the plays written by both Daniel and Rachael in Year 13 have been longlisted for the competition!

All of the students taking part in the project have worked tirelessly, resiliently and imaginatively on their plays, each student producing an original, political and purposeful piece of modern drama. Playwright Martin Murphy commented that the standard of all the scripts received from our Camden students was "incredibly high" and I am really proud of their amazing, creative work!
