    Focus First Homelessness Project

Please get involved if you can.

This morning saw Years 7 and 8 Focus First students launch their homelessness project in a joint year assembly. They spoke about how homelessness in Camden is a big issue, even though the borough has the lowest rates of homelessness in London.

We all know of the many homeless people there are from seeing rough sleepers locally. These people are only a small fraction of the huge number of homeless people who are not so visible to us. Last year some year 9 students worked on a project with Netley and Torriano primary schools to raise awareness of the issue and this year some of us in Years 7 and 8 have decided to take on the project and get the whole school involved. As a part of our Focus First project we have two main aims:

    - Put together care packages to give rough sleepers in Camden to support them through the summer because lots of charities do things to help in winter but forget that summer is also a difficult time because of the heat

    - Raise awareness of some of the homeless people we see all the time in Camden - to find out their stories, why they became homeless and tell the stories behind homelessness as it can happen to anyone of us at anytime

If you would like to get involved we would welcome donations of the following items:

    - Hand sanitiser
    - Cleansing wipes
    - Female sanitary products
    - Food vouchers for any supermarket
    - Sun cream
    - Deodorant
    - Toothpaste/Toothbrushes
    - Reading books
    - Hats or umbrellas to keep the sun off
