    Debating News

    On Thursday 6 February eight students attended the first round of the Oxford Schools debating competition held at Harrow School.

    Team 1

    • Bluebelle (Year 13)
    • Madeleine (Year 12)

    Team 2

    • India (Year 12)
    • Charlotte (Year 12)

    Team 3

    • Micol (Year 12)
    • Jessie (Year 12)

    Team 4

    • Martha (Year 10)
    • Ines (Year 10)

    The evening saw students from CSG debate two complex motions from students from around London. The motions were;

    • This house supports the use of academic streaming
    • This house supports removing citizenship from British citizens who participate in terrorism abroad

    It was particularly pleasing to see the Year 10 students take part in the competition where most competitors start in Year 12. Our debaters did incredibly well and judges commented on their engagement, the enthusiastic style and clear structure of their speeches.

    At the end of the evening it was decided that CSG Team 1 made it through to finals day - an incredible result and we look forward to going to the Oxford Union next month.
