This week: Y9 Public Speaking Competition, Y11 Leavers’ Lunch

    Y9 Public Speaking Competition
Last week, Ms Fearnside and I judged the Year Nine Public Speaking competition. Over the past few weeks in English, Year Nine students have been drafting speeches about issues which are important to them. They have to consider the way they communicate their ideas, the accuracy and impact of the content and the level of interest they are able to generate in their audience. Each English group sent a group of girls to compete, and Ms Fearnside and I were most impressed by the quality of material, the research carried out by the students and the work they had clearly put into preparation and rehearsal for the event. It is not easy to stand up and perform in this way in front of your year group, and we were particularly pleased with the variety of topics chosen for presentation.

The girls were impassioned, persuasive and well-informed, and it was extremely difficult to make our decisions about the winners. However, in the end we agreed on:

    • Overall Winner: Ella 9R
    • Best Content: Laura 9R
    • Best Delivery: Biba 9C
    • Year 9’s Choice: Jasmine 9T

    Y11 Leavers’ Lunch
We wished our Year Elevens goodbye and good luck last Friday. They enjoyed a lunch of pizza and cake, and they had organised thoughtful (and emotional) speeches and gifts for their teacher, tutors and Heads of Year (they had two!) It was a real pleasure to see them beautifully dressed for the occasion and enjoying this very important rite of passage.

They had also organised some quizzes, music and yearbooks so that they each have a permanent reminder of their time in school and the other students with whom they grew up and became teenagers.

We wish them every success and happiness, and thank them for all they have contributed to the school.

“On the afternoon of the 10th of May Year 11 gathered to celebrate their last day of school. The students all looked incredible and staff were extremely touched by the wonderful speeches that the students gave to thank their teachers and tutors.

The class of '19 have outdone themselves again.”
