On Wednesday 21 February, Mr Gunn accompanied eight students from Year 10, 11 and 12 to Finchley Catholic High School to take part in the first round of the Oxford Schools Debating competition alongside 16 other schools from North London.
Over the course of the evening, students took part in the following two debates;
- This house would ban zoos.
- This house prefers an education system, which consists of both vocational schools and traditional schools to one that only contains traditional schools.
The CSG debaters did really well against very strong opposition and were commended by the judges on their developed analysis of the issues.
At the end of the evening the judges decided that Madeleine (Y10) and Bluebelle (Y11) have done well enough to go through to finals day at the Oxford Union on Saturday 10 March, which is an incredible outcome and should be a fantastic experience to debate against the best teams from all around the UK.
