In October, some students in Year 10 participated in a workshop by Jane Chambers, a BBC journalist! We worked on confidence, speech techniques and storytelling. It was truly an amazing day.
By the end of the workshop six students moved on to the next round of selecting two students (and a reserve) to represent the school. From our year assembly, to the whole school one, students Jasmine 10T, Magan 10C, Biba 10C, Annabel 10M, Khadijah 10R and myself were, with much difficulty, brought down to me and Biba!
On November 28, just last week, we went to compete at the Jack Petchey Speak Out Regional Finals here in Camden! We went through a workshop at the beginning and were fed a lot of pizza. By the end of it, we made friends and improved our speech skills by a lot.
The event ran for 2 hours with performances in between. Biba’s speech was titled ‘Stand Tall’ and mine was called ‘What Is Perfect?’. I am glad to say that we both enjoyed ourselves and I managed to secure runner up (second place)!
You can see my speech as well as other speeches on the SpeakOutChallenge website.
I, as well as many others here at Camden, was very grateful for the opportunity to develop ourselves into ‘speaking out’ more clearly and even better than before. An even bigger thank you to Ms Alvarado for organising and working with Jack Petchey to help us along the way.
