The PE department is dedicated to promoting healthy, active lifestyles and providing students with a comprehensive understanding of physical activity and its impact on wellbeing and sport. We promote student independence, encouraging them to take responsibility for their learning and identifying areas in which they excel and can improve.
In KS3, students learn the fundamental skills for a range of sports, along with the rules of the games we teach. They are taught to apply them, and identify areas in which they and others can improve.
In KS4, skills are further developed along with a deeper understanding of strategy and specific positions in games. Students are also encouraged to take more of a specialist role within games, and become an even more effective member of their team. KS4 students also have the option of studying GCSE PE, which further deepens student understanding and speciality in certain sports. It also gives students a greater insight into the links between physical, mental and social wellbeing, and the impact society may have on participation levels in sport.

Everyone is welcome to attend all of our clubs, which are run on a drop-in basis. The Dance Company is the exception to this, as it is a group of 15 students selected by our Step into Dance practitioner to learn and develop complex choreography to perform at various dance shows throughout the year.
We have close links with Arsenal in the Community (who run our Football club), Step into Dance (who run a Dance Company, and teach some Year 7 Dance lessons), Highgate Harriers Athletics Club and Islington Boxing Club.
We participate in the Camden Shield every year, a competition involving all other state schools in Camden. We compete in Football, Basketball, Netball, Rounders and Athletics (both Cross-country and Track and Field). We also participate in London Schools Cross-country, and often have students represent Camden or the borough they live in at the London Youth Games.
We run inter form competitions for Years 7, 8 and 9 in the Spring Term. Year 7 teams compete in Netball, Year 8 in Netball, Football and Handball, and Year 9 in Netball. Each form selects their own teams, and represent each other by wearing their form colours!
In the Summer term, we have a Dance Show where students from all year groups have the opportunity to showcase choreography they have been working on in lessons, or outside of school.
We also run an annual residential trip to Devon in the Summer term. We invite Year 8 and 9 students to take part in 3 days of outdoor and adventure activities, and our Year 10 GCSE students to undertake an intensive Rock Climbing course as part of their course.
