This week: Leavers’ Concert and Year 6 Welcome Evening.
The End of Year Concert on 6 July was well-attended and highly enjoyable, as always. The full orchestra played the Danse Macabre, by Saint-Saens - a challenging piece which they performed with real sensitivity and confidence. This was followed by Holst’s Jupiter from The Planets, and the students’ delivery was equally impressive. The Big Band gave us Stevie Wonder’s Sir Duke and Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy with Three Little Birds, Jasmine played The Cat and Mouse by Copland, the Chamber Choir sang Though Philomela Lost Her Love by Morley and Mandy by Barry Manilow. The Year 12 Jazz band finished the evening with Mister Magic by Grover Washington, leaving the audience thrilled by the music and wanting more.
Many thanks to all the performers and music staff, and to the audience for their warm appreciation. Thanks as well to CASCA for the very welcome refreshments.
Year 6 Welcome Evening
It was a real pleasure to welcome next year’s Year 7 into the school last Wednesday. As always, the new girls were full of enthusiasm as they sampled the food and drink in the language cafe, met some of the older girls in the school and found their way around the buildings. Their parents had the chance to meet each other and many of the staff they will get to know from September. We look forward to getting to know them better in the autumn.
