Hannah's play makes the short list!
A couple of weeks ago I wrote to let you know about our two fantastic long listed Year 12 writers (Hannah and Savannah) who had been taking part in the National Theatre's New Views competition through an extra-curricular lunchtime club I ran over this academic year at school.
One of these long listed writers - Hannah - went on to make the short list which resulted in her play 'New Babel' receiving a rehearsed reading at the National Theatre performed by members of the NT's theatre company and directed by one of their staff directors.
Last week we had the pleasure of going to see Hannah's rehearsed reading and it was wonderful! The cast were fantastic, the audience were shocked, mesmerised and amused by Hannah's nuanced writing about 21st century life and we were all in awe of Hannah's fabulous achievement. Congratulations and well done, Hannah!
Hopefully, we will be running this course again next year so if there are any more aspiring sixth form playwrights out there keep your eyes open over the summer for inspiration!

Short listed playwright Hannah writes:
I’m still processing New Views and everything I got from it. My play was put in rehearsal and given a rehearsed reading the day after: in my cast and director Tom Hughes I met the most brilliant people, and it was working with them, as much as it was working at the National Theatre or working on a play I’d written, that made the experience so joyful. I’m very grateful to Miss Silver for all her imagination and support and to the education programme at the National for always holding the door open to young people.
