It was an excellent opportunity for students to experience Spanish way of life and improve their language skills.
As it does every year, the Spanish Department organised an exchange to Madrid during February half term. It was an excellent opportunity for students to experience Spanish way of life and improve their language skills.
As I am currently a year 12 Spanish student the opportunity of the Spanish exchange was great for me. Five other students and I visited Madrid between 12 and 18 of February 2017, spending a week there living in the homes of the Spanish students from the school IES Pedro Salinas. Each morning we would attend lessons with our exchanges and in the afternoon we would visit different attractions of Madrid with a teacher from their school. We visited the beautiful park Buen Retiro, saw national art in the Museo Nacional del Prado and contemporary art in the museum Reina Sofia. We regularly visited the bustling city centre, Sol, enjoying delicious tapas and churros with our exchanges.
It was great to have home cooked Spanish meals daily by the welcoming families who accommodated us. I felt very comfortable in their home and quickly adapted to the Spanish lifestyle. Overall, it was an incredible experience and I feel my Spanish improved greatly whilst on the trip. It gave me a true insight into life in Spain and I highly recommend the trip for those who consider studying A-level Spanish.
