Y8 Trip to Ironmongers Hall – Making Materials Matter

It was an exciting event and a great opportunity to meet science students from Oxford.

Ten students in year 8 visited the Ironmongers Hall in the city as part of our project “Making Materials Matter” in association with Oxford University.

While we were there we met the master of the Ironmongers, which was a real privilege! We began researching for our project and met our team leaders. We will be researching the different materials that go into chocolate and what holds them together. We carried out experiments looking at the strength of different materials using a universal testing machine.

We will continue to work with the PhD students from Oxford University over the next few months to complete our project in creating our own chocolate and we will be in with a chance of winning the Crest Awards.

It was an exciting event and a great opportunity to meet science students from Oxford.
