International Competition for Young Debaters at UCL

This was a very good experience for our debaters, many of whom were entering their first competition.

On Saturday 28 January Mr Gunn accompanied six members of the main school debating society (Lizzie, Quimmey, Micol, Martha, Madeleine and Bluebelle) to the London round of the International Competition for Young Debaters held at UCL. The competition is open to students from around the world aged 12-15.

    The day involved three debates:

This House Would Ban Religious Primary and Secondary Schools

This House Believes That in Areas of Socio-economic Deprivation, Schools Should Train Students in Vocational/Trade Skills to the Exclusion of Academic Studies

This House Would Allow Governmental Intelligence Agencies Unrestricted Access to the Internet History and Online Communications of all Citizens.

This was a very good experience for our debaters, many of whom were entering their first competition.

Although we did not make it through to the next round, our three teams did very well against very tough opposition and were given fantastic feedback from the judges.
