English Speaking Union’s annual Schools Mace debating competition.
On Thursday 30 November Madeleine (10M) and Bluebelle (11M), accompanied by Mr Gunn, travelled to Skinners Academy in Hackney to take part in the first round of the English Speaking Union’s annual Schools Mace debating competition.
Over the course of the evening, six schools debated a range of topics and were judged on their teamwork, presentation and engagement with the topics. The team from CSG were up against Dukes Academy debating the motion of This House would introduce a year of compulsory, non-military national service after Year 13 (or equivalent).
The pair from CSG were in proposition, arguing in favour of the motion and were commended by the judge for their developed analysis of the topic.
At the end of the evening, CSG was selected as one of the three teams to get through to the next round in the new year. This was the first debating competition for our debaters and was an excellent start to the year.
