    English Speaking Union Debate Challenge

On Monday 21 May, a team of debaters from CSG attended the first round of the English Speaking Union’s London Debate Challenge. The team was made up of Nyah Y9, Ines Y8, Lola Y8 and Kitty Y7.

The London Debate Challenge is an annual competition by the ESU for students from Y7-9 from state schools from around London and the round took place in the prestigious ESU headquarters of Dartmouth House in Mayfair.

The three motions debated were as follows:

    • This house would prioritise teaching popular fiction rather than classic literature in English classes
    • This house would allow the sale and purchase of human organs
    • This house would allow 14 year-olds to vote in local elections

The day was a fantastic experience for our debaters - it was the first debating competition for all of them and they fared very well against all of the teams they faced.

At the end of the day, the CSG team were selected to go through to the next round, which was a great result.
